SADNESS from MANCE....Joan Smith died on January 11, 2010

Our dear friend Joan Smith passed away (1-11-10) only three weeks after the death of her only surviving sister, Edna.

The era is over, there is no one left on the farm.

Last summer we took her to the site of the amazing rescue of the Q Creek Nine (9 coal miners), and also the Flight 93 (9/11/01) crash site.

Heat is where you find it!!

The lions lie down with the lamb. Record cold in January 2009 makes the fire "hearth" the place to be. Normal differences notwithstanding.

Brief Sojourn....escape from Mance

Suzy and I journeyed to Mance for one overnight with 4-8" of snow predicted and temps in the low teens. The highlight was a trip into a magic wonderland (only 30 miles from Mance) that brought back thoughts of New England. Seven Springs Resort provided a marvelous breakfast buffet enhanced by a wide open view of the slopes, and 18" of fresh snow
